Residents remember when phone lines were shared

Before there were long text messages, Facebook pages and cell phones, a more simplistic approach to develop telephone was the way of knowing what was happening.
And for some, snooping was the name of the racket.
Early years before the Second World War and common before the 1960s, telephone lines online celebration were a common way to bring people in out-of-the-way areas to others in the community.
In rural areas, a service of party line telephone service was still 20 years later, in the 1980s.
On a dinner party line, many households use the same phone, but calls to a particular relationship is distinguished by a special ring.
Betty McGehee said Natchez grew up in Concordia Parish rustic, telephone lines party line was the only way home could receive telephone service.
McGehee said that even in the face telephone lines were available in town, but in Lucerna Plantation, where she grew up, there were four houses dissimilar on the party line.
"We were three rings, my uncle was four rings and his son was two rings," McGehee said."You could count the rings to know who the call was intended.
