Interview with Tim LeTourneau on 10 years of making The Sims
03.02.10
TL: We asked where we derive our inspiration. What will we do then? The Sims is as big as life itself. The things we find interesting in our own lives are the things the characters Sim can find delightful in their virtual life. As developers, we believe that Sims wants to be master. We find gaming experiences in these things. We like to go on vacation. We have a passion for our pets. We like to be famous. These are natural extensions to our games. For us, we can add constantly pleased with this virtual world, there's always something we want to do in the real world.
VB: Were there certain games that have been most effective?
TL: If you look at the community in the history of The Sims, I remember that The Sims Hot Date (November 2001) was an important transition for the franchise. It was the first sims came despite breaking the barrier of the house. The Sims were familiar with life in the confines of a place. In The Sims Hot Date, The Sims moved to see other places, got to go downtown on rats. And you can chart from this point to date on how The Sims has grown. The Sims 2 came with an entire neighborhood. The Sims 3 is a world more clearly. You can follow them wherever they go. It is simulated at a city on the right.
